REALLY BIG NEWS- The MHA announced that the second phase of the CIT is set to begin in the New River Valley. An awards dinner honored NAMI members Marty Felker, Evelyn Gland, Susan Gland, Pam Weiss (your executive committee) as well as NAMI members Terry Grimes, Marcus Planet and Lynn Chenault. NAMI-NRV is going to partner again with the MHA , the NRVCS, all local police departments and the entire community. Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) programs are designed to prepare police officers to respond effectively and appropriately to people who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis The 1st CIT program was established in Memphis Tennessee. Local Chapter News Blacksburg - New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS) recently donated six computers to the New River Valley chapter of NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill). Each of the computers are in working condition and can be used for basic functions like word processing and spreadsheets.
NAMI-NRV President Marty Felker, who will distribute the computers to interested consumers, is also currently volunteering his time to do computer and internet training for members of NRVCS' Against All Odds Clubhouse.
